The Village of Elmira Heights is currently looking for a full time Code Enforcement Officer.
The position will be provisional until the Civil Service Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer results are published. You must be a resident of Chemung County, graduated from a high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and possession of the Basic Code Enforcement Training Certification. Training will be provided through the Office of Fire Prevention and Control to take the Civil Service test.
This position involves responsibility for securing compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building codes and local code requirements. Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical duties in support of the Village’s local code enforcement program; monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations relating to zoning, land use, nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, blight, graffiti, water waste, and other matters of public concern; and serves as a resource and provides information on Village regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other Village departments and divisions.
You must possess strong work ethic, the ability to work professionally with the public, and the motivation to help others. The hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, 1 monthly 7:00 pm meeting and a possible call-out in emergency situations.
