U.S.ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY PUBLIC AVAILABILITY SESSION
Wednesday, October 30th, 2019
236 Scottwood Ave, Elmira Heights, N.Y.
4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
There is an ongoing environmental investigation in Elmira Heights and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in consultation with the New York State Department of Health and Environmental Conservation, has been conducting air testing in buildings for the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), specifically trichloroethene (TCE – a chemical commonly used to remove grease from metal.). These chemicals cane move from the groundwater into the indoor air where you could be exposed to them through a process called soil vapor intrusion.
This public availability session will give you the opportunity to learn about vapor intrusion and the sampling proposed for your area. You will be able to sign-up for sampling and speak with representatives of EPA and the New York State Department of Health and Environmental Conservation, one-on-one, about questions you may have related to this sampling.
if you have any questions regarding this meeting, please feel free to contact Daniel Tucholski, New York State Department of Health, Public Health Specialist at 518-402-7860 or the EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, Mike Basile, at the Western New York Public Information Office in Buffalo, NY at 716-551-4410.
